No major surgery is performed without blood because of certain blood loss during surgery. On average, about 20 units of red blood cells, 20 units of plasma or cryoprecipitate, 6 Platelet apheresis (Mega Unit) are required for every liver transplant surgery. For every Renal transplant surgery, about 4 units of red blood cells, 4 units of plasma, 1 unit Platelet apheresis (Mega Unit) is required.

Indus Hospital

Inaugurated in 2013, The Indus Hospital Blood Center (TIHBC), Karachi is Pakistan’s first centralized blood center. TIHBC’s mission is to provide safe blood, meeting international standards and to mobilize the nation towards 100 percent voluntary blood donations The voluntary blood collection was initiated in December 2013, and till now the Indus Hospital Blood Center has formed a functional Regional Blood Center, with a network of hospital blood banks.

Al Baraka

Al Baraka Pakistan held 3 successful blood drives in Karachi, Islamabad & Lahore. The Karachi drive was in collaboration with Indus hospital held on July 17th 2019, Islamabad Blood drive was in collaboration with Pakistan Red Crescent Society held on July 18th 2019 & Lahore was in collaboration with Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Center on July 22nd 2019. Staff from all three regions came forward and became part of this noble cause.
